With a Professional and an Enterprise subscription you have the possibility to activate multiple languages in your webshop. This is convenient when you are active in multiple countries with your webshop, or for example, want to offer an English version in the Netherlands as well.
Activating multiple languages
You can activate multiple languages via the backend. You can do this via Starting point / My web shop / Settings / Layout and then going to Webshop languages. You can check or uncheck the languages in the 'Status' column.
When you activate a language, you will be able to fill in different languages in most of the text fiels within your backend. For example; Product name, product description, but also on modular pages and emails. You can change the language by selecting the correct flag.
Hiding languages
When you activate a new language you will of course have to translate all texts (except the standard texts in CCV Shop). Therefore it is useful to first hide the language from the consumer. This can be done by turning off the visibility of a language.
This can be done via Starting point / My web shop / Settings / Layout and then going to Web shop languages. To hide or show a language, click the icon of the eye in the column 'Visibility'.
Add your own languages
In CCV Shop we have 8 languages available by default: Dutch, English, German, French, Turkish, Italian, Spanish and Danish. These default languages have translations available for all standard texts. With standard texts we mean sentences or words which you don't have to fill in yourself. For example, the word ‘shopping cart' that the customer sees when they click on the shopping cart.
You can change these standard texts via the app ‘Custom texts'. However, it is also possible to add a completely new language using the ‘Custom texts' app. You can do this by installing the app via the App Store in the backend. You can then select Add your own language via Starting point / My web shop / Custom texts. You can then add a translation for each word and sentence.
Payment method per language
It is possible to activate iDEAL for the Dutch language but hide it for German customers. You can set the country for each payment method.
This can be done via Starting point / My web shop / Settings / Ordering Process & Stock / Payment method options and then going to Payment methods per country.
When you add countries to a payment method, you can choose from 2 options.
- The payment method will only be displayed for countries on the selected list.
- The payment method will not be displayed for countries on the selected list.
By default when you add countries to a payment method, the payment method will not be shown to these countries. To use option 1 you can check the box '[payment method] only display for the countries above'.
Include language in the URL
It is possible to include the language in the URL. This has a positive effect on the findability of your webshop in the different languages. To read more about this, see this article.
